Mike Irwin has been building something different at Meritor since 2015 — and in 2026, he's celebrating 11 years of doing it his way.

When Meritor was recently voted one of the best gyms in the area, Mike's reaction said everything about him: "We were just surprised to have even made it to the top 10."

That kind of humility is part of what makes Meritor work. Mike's philosophy is straightforward — stay consistent, keep the same attitude that brought you to the dance, and look after your community. It's a formula that keeps members coming back.

What started in a small space has grown into a fully equipped facility with dedicated training zones, a second site in Saltney, and QR codes on every machine so no one ever feels lost or too embarrassed to ask. Mike built a place where people feel comfortable — because he knows a gym can be daunting, especially for first timers.

Away from the gym, Mike is a dedicated family man — Dad to two kids, he's the kind of father who shows up for everything. That same commitment he brings to Meritor, he brings to home.

Mike coaches the Llay Welfare Junior Football team and supports local charities including Alder Hey Children Hospital. Giving back to the community isn't an afterthought — it's built into how Meritor operates.
